Hearing aids are devices that help people with poor hearing to hear better. They come in various sizes, shapes and styles.

A hearing aid is a small electronic device that increases the loudness of sound to help people hear. It has a microphone, an amplifier, a speaker and a battery. The microphone receives sound waves and turns them into electrical signals.

The amplifier receives these electrical signals and increases their power before sending them to your ear through a speaker.

The BAHA, which stands for Bone Anchored Hearing Aid, has been around in one form or another for more than 35 years.  There are currently two mainstream manufacturers of this type of device, being Cochlear and Oticon Medical.  This minimally-invasive system uses the body’s natural ability to conduct sound through bone conduction, with typical applications being for those with conductive hearing loss or single-sided deafness.

Bonebridge

BONEBRIDGE from MED-EL is the most advanced active bone conduction implant available and is placed completely under the skin. With the BONEBRIDGE sound waves are transmitted via bone conduction directly to the inner ear, where they are processed as natural sound, bypassing any obstruction in the middle ear. If you have single-sided deafness, BONEBRIDGE can also be used to pick up sound vibrations on your bad side and send them through to the inner ear on your good side. The result is better hearing wherever you are. Even better for Queenslanders  - BONEBRIDGE with SAMBA 2 is the only swim ready bone conduction solution.
