To ensure all Queenslanders, of all ages affected by hearing loss or considering a Cochlear implant, together with those currently using a Cochlear Implant and their families are supported and informed.
To promote and provide awareness, rehabilitation support, and opportunities for social engagement in a community encompassing all people with hearing loss, current cochlear implant recipients or those considering a hearing implant, and their friends and family.
At CICADA Queensland, we embrace people with all types of Hearing Loss or Deafness. For those of us with a Cochlear Implant, we can use our first-hand knowledge and experience of this amazing technology to create a web of support for our members.
We focus on three key words:
SHARE - Your journey, your story, your ideas - they are all unique and important.
LISTEN - To what matters to you, our members, so that we can support you to reach your own personal hearing goals.
CONNECT - With the people and tools that will empower you to take your hearing journey to the next level.
CICADA Queensland is a completely independent not-for-profit support organisation staffed by volunteers.
Our committee is working hard to implement exciting new changes taking CICADA QLD INC into the future, while staying true to the original vision of our founding members. As an organisation, we wish to embrace people from all walks of life, throughout their hearing loss journey.
This includes supporting those who are at the beginning, perhaps only starting to think about cochlear implants, through to those who are established cochlear implant users. Whether you identify as Deaf or Hard of Hearing, use Auslan or spoken language as your primary method of communication, or simply need some support for yourself, family or friends. CICADA Queensland is here to help you navigate this journey!
SHARE - LISTEN - CONNECT
A recent episode of Insight on SBS, clearly wanted to project an image that there is a “Divide” between the Deaf Community and the Cochlear implant community.
Recently I attended a workshop hosted by Deaf Services Australia and I walked away convinced that the so-called gap is being bridged. I felt their support and they know they have mine.
CICADA Queensland is very much in favour of supporting Auslan and those in the Deaf and Hearing loss communities, with or without a Cochlear Implant.
Never for one minute believe or allow the media to convince you otherwise.
We at CICADA Queensland are a “support group” we embrace all those with a Hearing Loss.
We embrace your journey with a Cochlear Implant, we also embrace those willing to be Bilingual and willing to learn Auslan.
“United we stand or divided we fall”
Let’s choose to stand united, making it very clear, we embrace anyone with a Hearing Loss, we embrace and encourage the use of Auslan.
I choose to use my gift of hearing through the incredible medical science of a Cochlear Implant to listen.
Because if we listen to each other, then we can support each other.
If such a “divide” exists, then I ask you all, to be part of the answer.
The answer is to bridge that gap.
